The AIMVIE study (AI Solutions for Mangrove Blue Carbon in Vietnam) seeks to develop AI solutions to monitor mangrove forests and their carbon sequestration in Vietnam. The ultimate goal is to equip people with better means to adapt to the global climate change.
The First AIMVIE Stakeholder Workshop has concluded. It was a great success with nearly 40 engaging participants, 3 highly informative keynote presentations, 2 lively group discussion sessions, and the practical, fun-packed UAV training programme. Thank you all for attending and contributing to the workshop. The workshop material will be shared with all participants in the coming days.
Dr Duong Cao Phan represents AIMVIE at an online consultation workshop organised by the Vietnamese Department of Forestry. The workshop is on the establishment and implementation of methodologies for quantifying carbon sequestration of mangrove forests. Tomorrow (19/05), Mr Nguyen Nam Son from the Department of Forestry will attend and deliver a keynote at the AIMVIE Stakeholder Workshop.
The agenda of the First AIMVIE Stakeholder Workshop is out! We are delighted to have three keynote speeches by Mr Nguyen Nam Son (Vietnameses Department of Forestry), A/Prof Dr Vien Ngoc Nam (Nong Lam University), and A/Prof Dr Tuan Quoc Vo (Can Tho University). The two-day workshop is packed with presentations and training in applications of Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for mangrove forest mapping. AIMVIE's Researcher Trung Nguyen Ly successfully defended his PhD thesis today at the National Central University in Taiwan. The thesis title is "A Field Study on Variation of Suspended Sediment Concentration Over an Intertidal Reef". Big congratulations to Dr Ly!
Six AIMVIE team members from Vietnam, Ireland, and Taiwan are joining a full-day consortium meeting today to review our progress with the stakeholder interviews and finalise the plan for the First AIMVIE Stakeholder Workshop later this month.
Welcome another member joining our AIMVIE team in Vietnam - Mr Trung Nguyen Ly. Trung Nguyen brings on board his expertise in wetland ecosystems. Our new researcher expects to complete his doctoral study at the National Central University in Taiwan this year.

Co-lead Tuan Quoc Vo and our Social Impact Champion Thuy Nguyen Thi Bich are attending workshop "Carbon From Mangrove Forests in the Mekong Delta: An Additional Revenue Stream under Payments for Forest Ecosystem Services (PFES)" in Ca Mau. The workshop is co-organised by the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. Our AIMVIE members will be contributing their expertise and exchanging with stakeholders in the government, NGOs, and different companies working on the front line of mangrove conservation in Vietnam.
Dr Duong Cao Phan joins AIMVIE as a full-time Research Scientist. Duong received his PhD award from University of Tsukuba in Japan. His expertise is in remote sensing data analysis for land use, land cover (LULC) mapping.
